At our inaugural Green New Drinks, cyclist advocate Robin Whitaker gave a riveting speech declaring a War on Cars to improve access to safe, public space.
If you missed her talk or want to relive the magic, you can read it in The Independent here https://theindependent.ca/2019/09/09/speaking-as-a-car-owner-its-time-for-a-war-on-cars/
THANK YOU to everyone who came out to our first Green New Drinks! Special thanks to Robin Whitaker and Dick Whitaker for sharing their ideas on a green future for NL! We are ready to enlist in the war on cars and write a plan to do so ;)
This is a monthly event and we hope to see you at the next one! Details TBA.
This week, as the Prime Minister, Premier and elected MPs and MHAs gathered for a Liberal party fundraiser at Memorial's Signal Hill campus and the St. John's Regatta at Quidi Vidi Lake, members of the Social Justice Co-operative and concerned citizens came out to share their concerns about access to clean water in Canada. Whether its flooding the reservoir at Muskrat Falls, polluting the rivers of Grassy Narrows, or the threat of oil spills and increasing production of Alberta's tar sands with the TMX Pipeline, the Canadian government has shown time and time again that it values corporate profits over clean water for Indigenous peoples. With Justin Trudeau in town we wanted to take that message straight to the top and were pleased to organize a few protests to make our concerns heard.
