SOCIAL JUSTICE CO-OPERATIVE NL

* TOWN HALL POSTPONED *

With great regret, and after careful deliberation, Organizers have decided to postpone the Pedestrian Safety Town Hall on Sunday March 15 until further notice.

The Safe Sidewalk Coalition has emerged out of a concern for public safety and a drive for accessibility and inclusion. We do not feel it would be appropriate to go ahead as planned on Sunday, given the health risks posed by the novel coronavirus, especially to vulnerable populations like seniors. Once we have a better idea of the risks and how to exercise proper community care in light of them, we will make an announcement about rescheduling. So, stay tuned.

The Coalition remains committed to our campaign for mobility rights in the city. Please email any comments you intended to express on Sunday to: safesidewalkcoalition@gmail.com

Organizers have prepared a Position Paper and were intending to workshop it with participants on Sunday. We now invite you to read it and respond through email to:

Featuring: a variety of ways to engage!

1. Story - Mapping:
Plot your experiences onto city maps. Where did you slip and fall? Where were you struck by a vehicle? Where do you feel stress and fear? What routes can you count on being safe?
Using stickers of different shapes or textures, participants will help visualize problem zones and well cared for areas. We will digitize this data - you can enjoy a tactile, family-friendly, more accessible experience!

2. Priorities and Policies Roundtables:
Take part in a facilitated discussion on a one-page position paper and the results of a recent Happy City survey on the issue. Consider several priority and policy suggestions as a group. Each table with contribute 2-3 recommendations for a dot-mocracy exercise, which everyone can partake in at the end.
These two stations will be rotational.

3. Audio-visual Storytelling:
The third station will be ongoing. Participants will be invited to sign up at the beginning of the event. There will be an interviewer, audiographers, and videographers present for anyone who wants to talk about their experiences or tell their story through audio or video. Folks are also welcome to prepare and deliver a monologue through audio or video. There will also be a photographer and placards for taking headshots with statements about Pedestrian Safety.
