Zoom meeting

Festivus for the Rest of Us is an opportunity to share our feats of strength and air our grievances. We want to know, what did the SJC do well in 2023? Where did we fall short? This process of reflecting and sharing is key in helping us greet the year ahead and build stronger in 2024. ๐Ÿ’–

About the event

In the tradition of the Costanzaโ€™s, Festivus for the Rest of Us is an opportunity to share our feats of strength and air our grievances. We want to know, what did the SJC do well in 2023? Where did we fall short? This process of reflecting and sharing is key in helping us greet the year ahead and build stronger in 2024.

We will use two speaking circles to give each attendee room to share their reflections.

Circle 1 asks the question, what did we do well? A chance to share memorable moments, positive impacts, points of pride. What about the past year in the SJC makes you feel good?

Circle 2 is an opportunity to air any grievances from the past year. Where did we miss the mark? A chance to share moments of disappointment, heartache, anger, sadness, or fear. What about the past year in the SJC did not make you feel good?

We appreciate you sharing your honest reflections and commit to receiving your feedback with care. Thank you for another inspiring year in the social justice movement.

We respectfully acknowledge the land on which we gather as the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk, whose culture has been lost forever and can never be recovered. We also acknowledge the island of Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland) as the unceded, traditional territory of the Beothuk and the Mi'kmaq. And we acknowledge Labrador as the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Innu of Nitassinan, Inuit of Nunatsiavut, and Inuit of NunatuKavut. We recognize all First Peoples who were here before us, those who live with us now, and the seven generations to come. As First Peoples have done since time immemorial, we strive to be responsible stewards of the land and to respect the cultures, ceremonies, and traditions of all who call it home. As we open our hearts and minds to the past, we commit ourselves to working in a spirit of truth and reconciliation to make a better future for all.
