UPDATE:

First Workshop Scheduled

Financial Empowerment Workshop #1

Tues, March 18 7-8pm NT

On Zoom: Email SocialJusticeCoopNL@gmail.com for the invite

To strengthen our collective financial literacy and foundational movement building, the SJCNL’s Financial Oversight Committee is kick-starting a series of Financial Empowerment Workshops!  We will be starting with a deep review of the Treasurer’s report and Audit Team report that was presented at the last Annual General Meeting as a practical example to develop our understanding and learn what further learning is needed.

PREVIOUS POST:

Since the SJCNL reported an internal theft to our community in 2022, we have been committed to a deep review of our financial oversight policies.

As part of that process, we have heard from members that they don’t feel fully comfortable assessing whether the financial reports presented are following all legal and internal guidelines.

In response to this feedback, the SJCNL’s Financial Oversight Committee is kick-starting a series of Financial Empowerment Workshops!

These workshops will be an iterative process to develop strong financial literacy and ensure that our members can hold the organization accountable to its policies.

We will be starting with a deep review of the Treasurer’s report and Audit Team report that was presented at the last Annual General Meeting as a practical example to develop our understanding and learn what further education our members need.

We encourage our members, volunteers, and allies of all levels of experience and knowledge to sign up for these workshops! We know there is a wealth of knowledge in this community that will be key for mentorship and engagement.

Please email us at socialjusticecoopnl@gmail.com if you are interested in joining and we will organize workshops around your schedule.

We respectfully acknowledge the land on which we gather as the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk, whose culture has been lost forever and can never be recovered. We also acknowledge the island of Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland) as the unceded, traditional territory of the Beothuk and the Mi'kmaq. And we acknowledge Labrador as the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Innu of Nitassinan, Inuit of Nunatsiavut, and Inuit of NunatuKavut. We recognize all First Peoples who were here before us, those who live with us now, and the seven generations to come. As First Peoples have done since time immemorial, we strive to be responsible stewards of the land and to respect the cultures, ceremonies, and traditions of all who call it home. As we open our hearts and minds to the past, we commit ourselves to working in a spirit of truth and reconciliation to make a better future for all.

(Borrowed with gratitude from First Light)
